Dr. Komal Prasad Chandrachari completed his neurosurgical training from the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) Thiruvananthapuram, an institute of national importance, regarded as one of the best in the country. He also underwent training at NIMHANS, Bangalore in management of traumatic brain injuries.
A rank holder from the Mysore Medical College, Dr. Komal has a special interest in quality of healthcare from his postgraduate days at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences, Hubli and senior residency at the prestigious Jawaharlal Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry.
He is a principal assessor for the National Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH), Quality Council of India.
He also holds with distinction, a postgraduate diploma in hospital and healthcare management (PGDHHM) and a postgraduate diploma in Medical Law and Ethics (PGDMLE) from the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.
He is an executive committee member of the Young Neurosurgeons’ Forum of the prestigious World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). He is secretary, core committee, of the Neuro-Spinal Surgeons’ Association, India.
He has been invited guest faculty for neurosurgical continuing education programs and cadaveric workshops. He has successfully organized conferences on neurosciences and spinal surgery like Annual Conferences of Neuro-Spinal Surgeons Association of India (NSSA) and Karnataka Neurosciences Academy.
He was instrumental in creation of Center of Excellence for Nanoparticles Research in Cancer Therapeutics at Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Center, Narayana Hrudayalaya Multispecialty Hospital, Bangalore, India, through a grant by Vision Group of Government of Karnataka.
He is actively involved in postgraduate training in Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery (DNB) and is an assessor for the National Board of Examinations (NBE).
His areas of interest are neuro-vascular surgery, epilepsy surgery, neuro-oncology, minimally invasive spinal surgery, and skull-base and endoscopic neurosurgery. He also has a special interest in consciousness studies and its relevance in neuroscience.
Recently, he was instrumental in starting neurosurgery and spinal surgery services at Health City, Cayman Islands, an ambitious project of Narayana Health in the Caribbean.
