Dr Zahid Hussain Khan received his BA and doctor of medicine degrees, and later obtained his postgraduate specialization in anesthesiology and intensive care. He was conferred upon the FCPS degree by PMDC after having served in the specialty for five years. Presently, he works as professor of anesthesiology at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. He did his clinical attachment in the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine at University hospital of Alberta, Canada during 2010-2011, and subsequently obtained his FCCM degree.
He has served on the editorial boards of several reputed journals such as Anesthesia & Analgesia, World Journal of Anesthesiology, European Journal of Anesthesiology, Acta MedIranica, Iranain Journal of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, besides having served as the Chief Guest Editor, Hindawi Publishing Corporation for a special issue. He has also served as the Guest Editor of Anesthesia & Analgesia. He is also the Chief Editor of Archives of Neuroscience and Chairman of the journals of Archives of Anesthesiology and Critical Care. He is a reviewer of many peer reviewed journals and has innumerable publications to his credit, besides his innovative classifications on airway assessment such as the “Upper Lip Bite Test’” and the “Upper Lip Catch Test” have been widely acclaimed and are routinely used as preoperative tests for airway assessment in all academic centers throughout the world. His latest book titled "Airway Management" was published by Springer International Switzerland in 2014. His major areas of research are related to airway assessment and management, neuroanesthesia, neuro-rehabilitation, neuro-critical care, and congenital cardiac anomalies and pain. He is an official examiner for postgraduate degree in the field of anesthesiology and intensive care in the oceanic region including Malaysia. He has given many presentations as an invited speaker both at the national level and in international congresses and gatherings.
Presently he is working on his new book about challenges in neuro-critical care that would be published towards the end of the year.
